Rethymno is a town on the north coast of the Greek island of Crete. The area attracts a very large number of tourists during the summer, mainly from northern Europe and Russia. In the outskirts of the old domestic area, a second resort-town expands for may kilometres the limits of the town along the coastline with hotel resorts, mini golfs, circuses, amusement parks, restaurants and souvenirs stores. The area is active and alive only during the summer season having characteristics of a non-place that as a space or a transition point fulfills the short-term dreams of its vacation visitors.
